Kairo Thuo

Chairman (Independent)

Mr. Thuo has vast experience in Law and Accounting and is a tax, legal and financial consultant. Through his many years of practice, he has developed extensive experience in all areas of taxation in Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda and Tanzania and has also been involved in tax matters involving other countries in Africa. Mr. Thuo previously served as an Associate Director at Deloitte until 2009. He is currently the Managing Partner of Viva Africa Consulting LLP and a Non- Executive Director, Special Economic Zones Authority among other companies. Mr. Thuo holds an LLB degree from the University of Nairobi, is a Certified Public Accountant in Kenya and Tanzania, and a member of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK).

Muathi brings a wealth of experience in the financial services industry, having held various senior leadership roles in investment banking. Muathi joins us from EFG Hermes where he served as Managing Director, Head of Brokerage and Frontier Equity Sales. He played a key role in building the EFG Hermes frontier markets business, expanding operations across several countries, including Kenya, Pakistan, Vietnam and Nigeria. His expertise spans across all aspects of brokerage operations and investment banking. Muathi has a strong track record in driving market share growth, especially in Kenya, where he led the business to become the market leader. He has played a key role in launching retail trading platforms and executing capital-raising initiatives.

John M. Gachora

Mr. Gachora has several years of experience in executive management positions at various global companies in Corporate and Investment Banking, Structuring and Financial Engineering, Commercial Banking and Financial services. He is a Director of several other companies and previously served as a Managing Director at Bank of America Securities and as Managing Director, Corporate and Investment Banking at Barclays Africa prior to joining the NCBA Group. Mr. Gachora holds Bachelor of Science and Masters in Engineering degrees in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, USA and an MBA degree from the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania, USA.

Livingstone Murage

Independent Non-Executive Director

Mr. Murage is a seasoned professional with over 32 years of experience in governance and strategic management within the financial services sector. He began his career at PriceWaterhouseCoopers and Mobil Oil before joining Mercantile Finance Company in 1986. He was instrumental in the formation of African Mercantile Bank (AMBank) and its subsequent merger with National Industrial Credit Bank in 1997. He held several senior leadership positions including Head of Treasury, Head of Operations, Head of Human Resources and Head of Finance and Administration, culminating in his appointment as Group Company Secretary in 1999. He played a key role in the 2019 merger of NIC Bank and CBA Bank to form NCBA Group, serving as Group Company Secretary until his retirement in 2020. Mr. Murage holds a B.Com (Hons) from the University of Nairobi. He is a Certified Public Accountant (CPAK), a Fellow of the Institute of Certified Secretaries (FCS), and a member of both ICPAK and ICSK. He also serves in various voluntary leadership roles, including as a Council Member of St. Paul’s University and Church Elder in the Presbyterian Church of East Africa

Nelson J. M. Mainnah

Mr. Mainnah holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting) degree from the University of Nairobi. He is a member of Kenya Institute of Management and is an alumnus of INSEAD, France where he obtained qualifications on Risk Management in Banking. He retired from CBA as Group Head of Enterprise Risk in April 2012 after working at the bank for thirty-eight (38) years. Mr. Mainnah has considerable expertise in business management, credit and enterprise risk, and treasury operations. Mr. Mainnah holds various board positions in the education sector and offers financial leadership in various charitable organizations. He is currently involved in strategic leadership and risk management through consultancy services.
